Apartments, Condominiums and Mobile Home Parks are some examples of Multi-Unit Properties. Septic tanks are an integral part of the waste management system in many of these properties. Many tenants are not familiar with septic system “Do’s & Don’ts”, creating an increased chance of system issues and an increase of water volume entering the tank at the same time, moving around solids.
Misuse of item disposal can cause a septic system to fail for various reasons, including non-biodegradable materials such as: Cigarette butts, hair, facial tissues, paper towels, bandages, feminine products, baby wipes, dental floss, etc. and should be disposed of in the garbage.
Grease does not break down in a septic tank. It should be placed in a can and then into the garbage. Grease comes in many forms besides food, such as body lotion, soaps, shampoo, conditioner, etc.
In addition, the use of 1-ply toilet paper is recommended, as 2-ply septic safe toilet paper may create septic problems.
